While driving to and from an appointment recently, I observed the barren school properties, void of the vibrant children who are the reason for their existence. As I thought about the situation, the following prose-poem came to mind.
School yard empty
No chuckles or shrieks of joy
no bouncing balls or running feet
No negotiations of how to play
no climbing on the jungle gym
no swaying on the monkey bars
Listen for the sounds of children at school.
the intense curiosity
the inquisitive minds
Listen for their voices.
Can you hear them?
Do you miss them?
Perhaps they will return soon,
to cheer and delight our hearts!
What are you experiencing as a parent or educator during these challenging times?
